What the spring equinox can teach us about navigating change and finding momentum, even when the path isn’t fully clear.
March 20, 2026, marks the spring equinox, a moment of balance between light and dark. It’s often described as a fresh start or a clean slate. Most of us know that it doesn’t really work that way.
Renewal, whether in our work or our lives, rarely shows up as a single, defining moment. More often, it unfolds gradually. It’s built over time through small decisions, steady effort, and a willingness to keep moving forward, even when what’s next isn’t fully visible. That’s what makes the equinox feel meaningful this year. Not as a reset—but as a reminder.
Renewal Doesn’t Happen All at Once
In communications, transformation is often framed as a moment—a big announcement, a launch, a clear turning point. The reality is quieter than that. Real change is shaped in the day-to-day work:
- Clarifying complex ideas.
- Helping people make sense of uncertainty.
- Reinforcing messages until they truly resonate.
It’s less about reinvention and more about staying engaged. It’s about refining how we think, how we communicate, and how we contribute.
The Space in Between is Still Progress
The equinox is, by definition, a transition point, not fully one season or the other. Many of us spend more time in that “in-between” than we expect—between roles, between clarity and uncertainty, between what was and what’s next.
It can feel uncomfortable, but it’s also where important work happens. It’s where you begin to:
- Reconsider what matters most.
- Reframe your experience.
- Rebuild with more intention.
From a communications perspective, this is often where the real strategy begins, before anything is formally announced or fully visible.
Progress Still Counts, Even When It’s Quiet
One of the challenges during periods of transition is that progress doesn’t always look like progress. It can feel slow, subtle, and easy to overlook, but it’s there when you:
- Continue to show up.
- Stay connected to your work.
- Find ways to contribute, even without a defined endpoint.
In communications, that consistency matters. Clarity, trust, and alignment aren’t built in a single moment. They are built over time.
Rethinking Fresh Starts
This year, I’m not thinking about the equinox as a dramatic reset. I’m thinking about it as a shift. A reminder that forward movement doesn’t have to be loud to be real; momentum can build quietly. Sometimes, renewal is already happening. We just don’t always recognize it right away.
Turning Uncertainty into Understanding
If your organization is navigating change or working to communicate more clearly in uncertain moments, that is the work I care deeply about. I’m currently exploring opportunities where I can contribute in a communications role focused on clarity, alignment, and trust. Finding Direction in the Shift
Like the blackbird often associated with moving between darkness and light, renewal isn’t about avoiding uncertainty. It is about finding direction within it. The light doesn’t change everything overnight. It changes enough to show us that we’re moving forward.
